Net Insight’s JPEG XS solution powers the largest live sports contribution network during the World Summer University Games
The 31st FISU University Games Summer is taking place in Chengdu from July 28 up until August 8, 2023, marking the third time that mainland China has hosted the prestigious event. Building upon the success of the 2001 Beijing University Games and the 2011 Shenzhen University Games, this will be the first comprehensive world games held in Western China.
With 18 thrilling sports events and participation from over 10,000 athletes and officials representing approximately 170 countries and regions, Chengdu is a vibrant hub of international sportsmanship. The Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire, FISU, is responsible for the organization and governance of worldwide sports competitions for student-athletes between the ages of 17 and 25. Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, is hosting the Summer University Games. Known for its rich cultural heritage, thriving culinary scene, and picturesque landscapes, Chengdu offers a special blend of modernity and tradition.

A diverse range of sports events
The 31st Summer University Games feature a wide array of sports events, 269 events in total, showcasing the talents of athletes from around the world. Disciplines such as basketball, volleyball, athletics, and swimming will take center stage, captivating both athletes and spectators alike. The Games provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience in fierce competition.

More than 160 UHD live feeds
This is the largest live contribution network using JPEG XS in China ever. NDT has designed a plan that includes codec services, optical transceiver services, signal monitoring systems, and integration services, among others, to ensure seamless signal broadcasting during the event.

Venues and technological innovations
The Games are spread across 45 venues in Chengdu, each designed to provide optimal conditions for the athletes. Among these venues, 20 are covered by the Net Insight 4K solution using JPEG XS, the cutting-edge technology that ensures high-quality transmission of signals. This innovation enhances the viewing experience for spectators, allowing them to witness the action in stunning detail.
