Powering culture without borders through ANSEL

Culture knows no borders—and now, with the help of cutting-edge technology, neither does cultural performance.

Net Insight is proud to be part of ANSEL , a pioneering project designed to bridge vast distances and bring cultural experiences and education to the sparsely populated regions of Finland, Sweden, and Norway. By addressing key challenges like limited infrastructure and lack of local resources, ANSEL is building a new digital stage for creativity to thrive in the northernmost parts of Europe.

A network for shared presence

At the core of ANSEL is a vision: to enable distributed cultural collaboration across borders. The project unites organizations in culture, the arts, and creative industries with network technology providers to explore how digital solutions can empower cultural expression in remote regions.

Through our trusted partner Mediatrade, Net Insight has delivered Nimbra 1060 and Nimbra 680 to support the robust core network enabling ANSEL’s activities. Mediatrade’s new Showroom for Remote North NCDP (Nordic Community for Distributed Presence) plays a key role in exploring commercial opportunities and promoting innovation for both public and private sectors.

From “Tre rum” to touring in sign language with “The Canterville Ghost”

Net Insight’s involvement in NCDP spans several years, including the groundbreaking theatre production “Tre rum” (Three Rooms) in 2023—where actors from three different countries performed together in real time, across borders, as one seamless stage experience.

A part of ANSEL was the Swedish National Touring Theatre Riksteatern’s recent innovative production “The Canterville Ghost”—a remote, sign language theatre performance brought to life using live 3D animation. Powered by Net Insight’s Nimbra platform, the production enabled actors to perform from different locations in real time, with the ghost as an animated avatar mirroring its movements on stage. Touring in February and March 2025, the play was a powerful example of how advanced media transport can unlock inclusive and immersive storytelling across distances.

Culture meets connectivity

Projects like ANSEL demonstrate how technology isn’t replacing human connection—it’s enhancing it. By combining resilient media transport with creative ambition, we’re proud to help bring stories to life for audiences regardless of where they live.

Whether it’s a digital stage stretching across borders or a single moment shared between performers hundreds of kilometers apart, Net Insight makes presence possible.
