ATSC 3.0 distribution
ATSC 3.0 is the latest version of the digital TV system which enables significant upgrades to over the air TV services. Devised by the Advanced Television Systems Committee and adopted principally in North America, the standard establishes an IP-based technical framework for the broadcast of content to TVs and other internet connected devices.
Also known as NextGen TV, ATSC distribution supports the broadcast of UHD resolutions alongside other picture quality uplifts like high dynamic range (HDR), wide color gamut (WCG), and high frame rate (HFR). Audio quality is enhanced with possibilities to deliver up to 7.1 channel audio and object-based formats like Dolby Atmos.
ATSC 3.0 can deliver on-demand content and rich interactive data alongside programming giving TV stations a critical boost in their ability to compete with streaming services.
ATSC 3.0 in brief
ATSC 3.0 is a hot topic in the Americas. What is it? What are the challenges when adopting this standard? And how can Net Insight help you?
Our ATSC 3.0 experts Quent and Doug will guide you through these questions.
Despite all the disruptive alternatives to consume media today, linear terrestrial TV – also known as Over-the-air TV – will continue to be a major content access point for many years to come. ATSC 3.0 is the latest standard: allowing 4K resolution and sound upgrade, it is poised to reshape the TV landscape in the U.S.
ATSC 3.0 causes changes in traditional business relationships between broadcasters. To deliver better services to all viewers, broadcasters need to move from pure competitors to partners who must build a new ATSC 3.0 network.
In regional ATSC 3.0 cases, broadcasters will have the possibility to deliver rich content, rich video and associated data streams, expanding beyond today’s HD to 4K HDR and high frame rate video. New services will be delivered over-the-air or over the internet and across a variety of IP-enabled platforms.
To ensure continuous broadcast, especially during a national crisis, network security is key.
