It provides transmission services via satellite, IP infrastructure and mobile networks for clients ranging from small local broadcasters to the biggest international media groups and rights holders.

The brief

Mobilelinks’ media contribution network covers Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and connects to Baltics, Germany, Poland, Netherlands and the UK. The network is based on Net Insight’s Nimbra 1060 platform, offering 100G capacity, and is now being expanded to handle more live premium sports and entertainment content for customers such as Viaplay and TV4 Sweden.

The media industry is in the middle of a wholesale transformation effecting ecosystems, value chains and technology. Media organizations wanting to take advantage of the trend to remote and distributed workflows in the production environment are naturally keen to make the move to IP and the Cloud in a secure, reliable and cost-effective way.

For us, a building block can be a straightforward HD or UHD production. It could be to enable a hybrid remote model where some cameras or commentators are produced from different locations. Or it could be a full remote production with 20+ cameras where the feeds are compressed and synchronized over our network.”

Demand for media IP network services is increasing all the time. Langell says, “We have been growing our network pretty fast along with our client’s expansion. The more capacity we have the more we are able to service our existing partners and the more we are able to grow as a company.”

Its network capacity is now being expanded to 200 Gbps using Net Insight’s powerful terabit media transport platform, the Nimbra 1060. The agile, low-latency network enables more and larger productions and accommodates future requirements like new formats and remote production.

“With 200Gbps trunk capability we can add more node and add more capacity to the nodes so that we can create a stronger backbone, more redundancy and the potential to expand into new markets.”

Mobilelinks is now upgrading its European presence in Frankfurt and London to Nimbra 1060 and will then connect those nodes to its Nordic ring to have one powerful Nimbra 1060-based core.
